History of Armenia

Armenians аrе an ancient civilization whose history is long, complex, and in many ways epic and heroic. The descendants of Noah, survivor of the Biblical flood, whose boat, according to Genesis, came to rest on Ararat. Movses Khorenatsi, historian of the 5th century, presents a detailed genealogy of the Armenian forefather Haik-Japheth’s son and Noah’s grandson. Thus, the territory of the Armenian Plateau is regarded as the cradle of civilization, the initial point for the further spreading of mankind all around the world.

Armenians are the first nation to adopt Christianity as the official religion(301 A.D.). Throughout the centuries they have been persecuted and harassed by neighbouring countries and empires, but despite all the turbulence and foreign domination, Armenians created a rich and a colourful culture, their own alphabet and a socioeconomic structure that has allowed them to preserve their distinct way of life.

“Whatever may have been their destiny, their country must ever be one of the most interesting on the globe”.
George Gordon Byron- English poet- about Armenia
